Caracas, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Venezuela has reinforced social programs as part of a special plan to attend to the victims of the economic warfare, the executive secretary of the National Human Rights Council, Larry Devoe, said.
The adoption of measures to protect the people from the US blockade is indispensable for the Bolivarian Revolution’s model, he told Prensa Latina.
President Nicolas Maduro announced this initiative in order to preserve the social gains of the process started by Hugo Chavez, which reported the highest indicators in the country’s history, Devoe pointed out.
According to the expert in human rights, the plan aims to make policies more efficient, make better use of resources to outreach people in vulnerable settings, the elderly and children, sectors that the international doctrine recognizes as the most affected by the US blockade.
Washington’s coercive measures are not against a specific person, but against the model that the Bolivarian Revolution signifies as an example for other political processes in the continent and in the world, Devoe stressed.
‘A major action is to speak out at all forums, national and international public opinion to denounce the impact on the Venezuelan people, but we cannot just make the denunciation, we must also adopt guidelines to protect our society,’ he stated.
According to official statistics, the US sanctions have caused Venezuela losses worth more than 24.258 billion dollars.
