United Nations, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) With the support of 187 of its member states, the UN General Assembly adopted on Thursday a new resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
There were two abstentions: Colombia and Ukraine; and only Israel and Brazil voted alongside the US against the lifting of the blockade, becoming isolated amid the demand of the majority of the international community.
For the twenty-eighth consecutive occasion since 1992, the countries of the world categorically rejected the blockade imposed by Washington against the island for almost six decades in the main deliberative body of the United Nations.
More than 40 nations and international organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the Group of 77 plus China spoke out against the policy and called for it to be lifted.
Diplomats and senior representatives from different countries condemned the increased hostilty and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States against Cuba.
In their interventions, they denounced once and again the extraterritorial nature of the blockade.
Likewise, they stressed that the US blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba’s sustainable development and is a violation of Cubans’ human rights.
