Spain Hosts 15th Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba

Madrid, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) The unconditional and permanent support from the Spanish people to Cuba was recognized during the opening ceremony of the 15th State Meeting of Solidarity with the Caribbean nation, which will run until Sunday in Madrid.

The meeting, which takes place in the Madrid municipality of Rivas-Vaciamadrid, coincides with the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the 30th anniversary of the creation of the unitary movement of solidarity with Cuba in Spain.

Two round numbers that, in addition to being relevant, are loaded with meaning, Eduardo Hernandez said when preseting the agenda of the meeting.

The permanence of the victorious Revolution on January 1, 1959, its values, anti-imperialist and internationalist strength and its achievements in all fields of human development make this is an exceptional event, he said.

About the content of the 15th edition of the event, attended by more than 200 members of the movement, Hernandez said the the meeting will discuss, deepen and project into the future the essential aspects of this trajectory.

Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP)and one of the five Cubans who were held in US prisons for fighting terrorism, spoke at the opening session of the meeting.

Gonzalez, who is also a Hero of the Republic of Cuba and a lawmaker, expressed his country’s immense gratitude to the Spanish solidarity movement, one of the oldest in Europe and the world, due to its accompaniment over these six decades of the revolutionary process.
