Hotel Posada de La Aldea, Ancha de San Antonio #15 Noted Cuban philosopher Olga Fernández discusses “Social Justice and Popular Participation in Cuba Today” at this Sunday’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship service.
The Cuban Revolution has long prioritized social justice based on popular participation in public affairs. Now, as Cuba is renovating its socialism, it is redefining social justice and rejuvenating participation. She was Director of the Institute of Philosophy in Havana for many years until she took up diplomatic posting in Washington and Santiago de Chile. Earlier she served at the United Nations. Now she is back at the Institute of Philosophy researching and writing on political subjects. Ms. Fernández is also a co-author of the book, “Recreating Democracy in a Globalized State,” and a featured speaker at upcoming “Moving Beyond Capitalism” conference in San Miguel de Allende.
Unitarian Universalists value the individual spiritual journey and practice a faith of deeds. Our presentations emphasize the values of community, spirituality, and social justice.
