Second shipment of Cuban anti-Covid Abdala vaccines arrives in Mexico

Mexico City, Dec 23 (Prensa Latina) A second shipment of Cuban anti-Covid-19 Abdala vaccines is already in Mexican territory, confirmed today the Biologicos y Ractivos de Mexico (Birmex) institution.

According to the source, it is a shipment of 4.9 million doses against the Sars-CoV2 that causes the disease.

The newspaper Milenio Digital, which reported the unloading of the biologic, reports that in this way Mexico continues with the National Vaccination Strategy. Even though the population already has a high coverage rate, health authorities are warning of a possible resurgence in January.

The first shipment is already in the health care centers and part of it is being used as a booster for adults over 18 years old, as indicated by the capital’s Secretary.

According to Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Abdala is 92 percent effective against symptomatic Covid-19 disease, as well as 100 percent effective in preventing severe systemic disease and death in vaccinated patients, and 90 percent effective in serious patients, according to Excelsior newspaper.
