Popular music group from Cuba to perform at LEA

55baae8c9ae09.imageLast year was a breakout year for Cuba’s most popular music group Gente de Zona, having co-written and been featured on Enrique Iglesias’ widely successful single “Bailando.”

The commercial hit earned the duo three Latin Grammy awards, three Lo Nuestro awards and a six Latin Billboard awards. This led to widespread radio airplay and touring success through the U.S., Europe and Latin America.

Gente de Zona will be at the Laredo Arena on Saturday, Sept. 5.

“Gente de Zona has a very unique Cuban influence in the reggaeton genre which is creating a big stir. We are excited to be hosting them at the LEA,” said Xavier Villalon, general manager of the SMG-Managed Laredo Energy Arena. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, Aug. 8. Tickets will be available at the LEA box office, ticketmaster.com, at select Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000

Gente de Zona ignited the year with the release of their own single, “La Gozadera” (featuring Marc Anthony), which premiered with a live performance at the Latin Billboard Awards, and a No. 2 debut on iTunes’ Latin chart. The group is presently focused on engaging with their global fan base via touring and on their upcoming album to be released this fall.

Gente de Zona was formed in 2000 in the Alamar neighborhood of Havana. Over its long history, the group has evolved from a local rap collective to today’s fixture in urban Latin pop, having collaborated with acts like Chino y Nacho, Juan Magan, and Pitbull. The Cuban duo features Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom Martinez, a combination that’s grown to give Gente de Zona its unmistakable international sound.
