Pianists of 10 Nations to Meet in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (acn) The 2nd Meeting of Young Pianists will bring together, as of Thursday, 23 prize-winning soloists of 10 countries, in a meeting in which the power of music as an expression for understanding between the peoples will become evident.Under the artistic direction of Cuban professor Salomon Gadles and co-sponsored by the City Historian Office and the Cuban Music Institute, the festival, which will run until June 29, will have the Marti Theater, the Minor Basilica of San Francis of Assisi and the Ignacio Cervantes Hall as venues, and will have the contributions of interpreters from China, Russia, Germany, Australia, Cyprus, South Korea, the United States, Belarus, Egypt and Cuba, the Granma newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The opening gala will take place at 7:00 p.m. precisely at the recently restored Marti Theater, starred by Byelorussian Alexandra Beliakovich (Concert in F Major, by Gershwin) and Chinese Xiayin Wang (Concert Number 2, by Rachmaninov), with the accompaniment of the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Enrique Perez.

This week, the festival will continue on Friday, June 6, at the Cervantes Hall (second floor of the Palacio de los Matrimonios, on Prado and Animas streets), and on Saturday at the Basilica, always at 7:00 p.m., with recitals by Russian Alexander Mu­tuzkin and Cuban Gabriel Urgell, respectively; while on Sunday Cypriot Kyriakos Sourollas (Concert Number 24, by Mozart) and Russian Mutuzkin (Concierto Number 1, Chaikovski) will perform at the Marti Theater.
