Washington, Jul 18 ( Prensa Latina ) One of the serious measures taken by the Donald Trump Administration against the Cuban people is the closure of the U.S. consulate in Havana and the Cuban consulate in Washington.
This is what Andres Gomez, journalist and director of Areito Digital, said Thursday when he addressed U.S. actions against Cuba.
The closure of the U.S. consulate in Havana led to the denial of visas for immigrants and visitors who according to immigration laws legally qualify to obtain them, causing permanent damage to the Cuban family in Cuba and the United States, Gomez said.
Damages which will undoubtedly have serious political consequences for the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump by the Cuban electorate in the state of Florida in the upcoming November 2020 elections. A vote that could cost him the electoral loss of this state and thus the presidential reelection, he asserted.
In late January 2019, the Cuban emigration organizations forming the Martiana Alliance in Miami: the Antonio Maceo Brigade, the Martiana Alliance (as an individual organization), the Jose Marti Cultural Association, the Association of Women in Defense of the Family and the Bolivarian Circle of Miami, Negra Hipolita, issued letters protesting this situation to the federal senators for Florida, Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, both Republicans.
A survey of Cuban Americans living in Miami-Dade County recently done by Florida International University showed that 63 percent of those surveyed support the decision to maintain normal diplomatic relations with Cuba; 61 percent of registered voters support this decision.
Besides, 57 percent support the lifting of all travel restrictions to Cuba for all Americans and 68 percent support the maintenance or expansion of current business relations with Cuba.
