People in the US want bridges of love with Cuba

Washington, July 13 (Prensa Latina) While hostility historically characterizes the White House’s policy towards Cuba, the people of the United States want to create bridges of love, activist Carlos Lazo said today.

The opportunity to visit part of the country in the last 15 days has made it possible to contact American friends and people from different backgrounds along the way who are interested in lifting the blockade, the Cuban-American professor told Prensa Latina.

There is a reality, ‘the American people want to create bridges of love between Cuba and the United States,’ he emphasized.

One of those Americans who joined the march made it clear that for more than 60 years the United States continues to block the Cuban people, towards whom he expressed his feelings of affection.

Despite the silence of mainstream media here, the ‘Bridges of love’ project, coordinated by Lazo, continues its walk of almost two thousand kilometers in demand for President Joe Biden to end the blockade, which causes so much suffering to the Cuban family.

Throughout the pilgrimage, visiting churches, as well as different institutions and organizations, and knocking on doors are part of the group’s actions to draw attention to the unfair and cruel policy, as the activist described the economic, financial and commercial siege.

The initiative has a petition (available at that already exceeds 26 thousand signatures and the purpose is to present it to the White House on July 25, when they will demand that Biden fulfill his promise to change the policy towards Cuba and the end of the blockade.

Lazo insists that to ease the pain of the Cuban family, the Democratic president must restore the sending of remittances, reestablish the family reunification program and reopen consular services at the Washington embassy in Havana.
