Parliaments of Cuba and Uruguay to Strengthen Links

diputados-uruguay-cuba[1]Havana, Dec 9 (Prensa Latina) Lawmakers from Cuba and Uruguay expressed here today their commitment to strengthen the links between their legislative bodies to contribute to the pro-integration efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In a meeting, speakers of the National Assembly of the People’s Power of Cuba (Parliament), Esteban Lazo, and of the House of Representatives of Uruguay, Anibal Pereyra, highlighted the importance of coordinating positions.

“We want and need to strengthen our links in all fields, increase exchanges and establish work protocols to deepen bilateral relations, said Lazo after welcoming the visitors.

Pereyra is visiting Havana accompanied by lawmaker of Frente Amplio (Broad Front-FA) Alejandro Sanchez, who will asasume the presidency of the National Asembly of Uruguay next year.

The Uruguayan visitors thanked the Cuban people and govenment for their permanent solidarity with all nations, specially with their country, where more than 50,000 people regained their sight thanks to the free-eye surgery program Operation Miracle. Lazo appreciated Uruguay’s support to agricultural programs implemented in Cuba as part of the updating of its economic model and to the struggle against the U.S. blockade.

He recalled that Cuna and Uruguay have been strengthening and diversifying their links with the coming to office of Frente Amplio in 2005, and congratulated the visitors for the victory of the FA candidate Tabare Vazquez in the presidential elections of November 30.
