More Russian tourists arrive to Cuba’s Varadero beach resort

Matanzas, Cuba, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) The Russian airline Royal Flight resumed connections from Moscow to Varadero on Thursday, carrying nearly 500 tourists from that Eurasian nation to enjoy Cuba’s major coastal resort.

The itinerary, covered by a Boeing 777 plane, had the Juan Gualberto Gomez International Airport in the western province of Matanzas, where varadero is located, as its final destination.

Lizet Borrell, commercial director of the Cubatur travel agency’s branch office here, said that the airline operates jointly with the Coral Travel tour operator, and its purpose is to expand trips to other Cuban destinations.

‘There is a demand and interest from Russian vacationers in Varadero, and all conditions have been created so that they can enjoy safe tourism without setbacks and with all guarantees of their expectations,’ the specialist said.

Borrell pointed out that the Russian tourists who arrived on Thursday will stay in 12 local hotels run by Gran Caribe, Cubanacan and Gaviota.

‘We have designed nautical programs that are very popular among them, including fishing, a Caribbean night on a key and visits to the crocodile farm in the Guama area,’ she said.

Borrell added that ‘the resumption of operations with Russia is highly significant, because besides being a segment with a high volume of clients and revenues, it will enable us to reactivate an important part of our workforce,’ he said.

For Cubatur’s board of directors, the current commercial activities show that Cuba is a safe destination and that visitors have confidence in the country.
