Mexico City, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) Mexican Undersecretary of Health Hugo Lopez-Gatell on Tuesday acknowledged the high quality of Cuba’s Abdala pediatric vaccine, and noted that only a few details are missing to obtain it.
At President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily morning press conference at the National Palace, the official was asked about the issue.
He said that the Cuban homegrown vaccine for children is in a process of analysis by the Federal Health Protection Commission, in accordance with the technical procedures of the case.
Lopez-Gatell added that “all the elements have been very well studied, and as far as technical evidence is concerned, there is no doubt about the efficacy, it is very proven and Cuba has a scientific platform for vaccines considered one of the best in the world.”
Cuba has developed its own vaccines with a very high margin of safety and efficiency.
That is to say, he affirmed, that in the case of the vaccine for the pediatric population there is not the slightest doubt as regards safety and quality, but there are still some pending details that are in the hands of the Cuban Government and when they are concluded we will advance in the process of its acquisition.
He said that the same happens with the Pfizer vaccine, which can be acquired as soon as there is a documented resolution for children under 5 years old and older.
The issue arose from a question about the latest notice from the Health Secretariat of a breakthrough in the Covid-19 pandemic in Mexico, which will require the issuance of daily reports again.
He did not clarify if it is a fifth wave, but noted that the Secretariat has never proclaimed the end of the pandemic and that its latest expression is that of the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which is more contagious than the previous one, but in contrast with a lower mortality rate.
