Kazakhstan Biotech Institute dedicates seminar to Fidel Castro

Nur-Sultan, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) Diplomatic reports indicated this Tuesday that the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) in Kazakhstan dedicated a seminar to the legendary historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, father of biotechnology in Cuba.
The event focused on the experiences of the Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM) in Cuba, leading up to the 25th anniversary of its foundation thanks to Fidel Castro’s initiative.

PhD. Mayra Ramos Suzarte, head of the Clinical Trials Department of the prestigious Cuban scientific institution, spoke about some of the main products developed by the CIM throughout this period for cancer treatment.

Likewise, experts adressed the promising results, in terms of effectiveness and safety, of the humanized monoclonal antibody Nimotuzumab and the therapeutic vaccine Cimavax egf, both registered in Kazakhstan since 2018.

The event also featured the screening of a documentary about the Center of Molecular Immunology, its history and major research milestones.

The Deputy Director of the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology in Kazakhstan, Muhktar Kassym, recalled his meeting with the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, during one of his visits to the former Soviet Union.

The activity was also attended by the Cuban Ambassador to this country, Emilio Pevida Pupo, who addressed several issues related to medical, biotechnological and pharmaceutical cooperation between the two nations.
