Italians Welcome Return of Cuban Fighters

Rome, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) Intellectuals, artists and representatives of social movements celebrated here today the return to their country of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters that served sentences in U.S. prisons, informed the Italian chapter of the Network in Defense of Humanity.

In the ceremony, which took place in the social center Short-Circuit, Professor Luciano Vasapollo and Rita Martufi gave a speech, as well as members of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Italy and to the Holy See, among others.

The speakers emphasized the joy experienced by the Cuban people and the international solidarity movement because of the return of the Five to the island.

There were also live telephone connections with Havana, with the Deputy Minister of Culture Fernando Rojas, the President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Kenya Serrano, and the coordinator of the Cuban revolutionaries in Europe in the Network, Josephine Sanchez.

In these contacts they expressed gratitude to all those who in Italy always believed and supported the fairness of the struggle for the liberation of René González, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández.
