The Cuban diplomat stressed the longstanding relationship that exists between the government and people of Cuba and the African American community in the United States
The United States (Granma) – On February 27, the Cuban Embassy in the United States welcomed the President, senior leaders, professors and students from Howard University, a prestigious and Historically Black College established in 1867, which, over the years, has maintained longstanding ties of friendship and cooperation with Cuba.
Cuban Ambassador José Ramón Cabañas Rodríguez, in his welcoming remarks, underscored the historical ties between the University and the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington D.C., which have been marked not only by the geographical proximity of both institutions, but also by common interests in the field of higher education, the shared vision of working for the benefit of society, and a view to promoting education for all.
Likewise, the Cuban diplomat stressed the longstanding relationship that exists between the government and people of Cuba and the African American community in the United States.
In addition, the President of Howard University, Wayne A. I. Frederick, recalled his first visit to Cuba in September 2016 and the enriching experiences of the visits and exchanges held on the island by professors and students from the college, as well as its commitment to continue to work with Cuba.
Also speaking at the event were student Lydia Johnson; professor Mesi Walton and Director of the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center, Tonija Navas, who spoke highly of their work experiences on the island.
Also in attendance were ambassadors and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, specifically from Latin American, Caribbean and African countries, as well as Cuba solidarity activists and members of the Cuban Community in the United States. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba United States)
