Moscow, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev confirmed the great potential of economic cooperation between the two countries and a high level of political dialogue.
Díaz-Canel Bermúdez indicated that the relations between the two nations are based on historical ties, so it was not surprising that he made his first visit abroad, outside the Latin American region, to the Russian Federation.
With this visit we wanted to confirm that the new leadership maintains the continuity of the legacy of Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro, declared the Cuban leader.
We give the highest priority to our relations with this nation, for us this is a strategic relationship between two allies, he said.
The Cuban head of state invited Medvedev to visit the Caribbean country. The purpose of the visit is to consider how our joint projects are progressing, he said.
In addition, he thanked the Russian government for helping to eliminate the consequences of the last two devastating hurricanes on the island.
We see a high level of political dialogue and I would like to say that we strive to ensure that economic ties, which also develop well, reach the same level as that of politicians, commented Diaz-Canel Bermúdez.
The Cuban leader stressed that all bilateral projects now focus on strategic areas of economic development: industry, transport, energy, biotechnology and pharmaceutical products.
‘We would like to advance in telecommunications and cyber security,’ added the Cuban president, TASS reported.
For his part, Medvedev said that some key points were discussed. I think this should give a better dynamic to our relations, he said at the Gorki residence.
We are good friends and we have special associations, however, in the economic sphere there are tasks to be done, he said.
There are many large unrealized projects, we have great potential associated with the development of commercial and economic cooperation, he said.
I hope that your visit to our country will give a positive boost to all these relations, ‘he said in a meeting in an expanded format with the participation of members of both delegations.
