Ciego de Avila, Cuba, June 25 (Prensa Latina) HeberFERON, the world´s Cuban medicine for basal cell carcinoma (BCC) treatment, is being positively applied in this central region of Cuba.
According to Dunia Sotolongo, coordinator of the National Drug Extension Program in Ciego de Avila, about 90 patients with skin cancer have already been treated since three years ago.
She stressed that HeberFERON inhibits tumor cell proliferation and symptoms of relapses, and also improves patients´ quality of life.
Created at the Havana Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, HeberFERON -at this time- is only applied in three territorial medical centers.
HeberFERON is the most-advanced medicine used for BCC and is included in the Cuba staple medicine group, where it is applied free of charge to all patients.
Dunia Sotolongo also said that HeberFERON cures or reduces BCC, a disease many Cubans are currently suffering from due to their long exposure to the sun with no proper solar protection.
