Havana’s Movie Theaters Welcome Traveling Caribbean Film Showcase

Havana, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) After their presentations in different cities in Cuba arrives today in this capital the wide and varied 6th Traveling Caribbean Film Showcase, which is dedicated to the music of that region. This time, the project pays tribute to recently deceased Cuban artists Juan Formell, director of the popular band Los Van Van, and Luis Carbonell, also to Puerto Rican musician Cheo Feliciano and Dominican singer Sonia Silvestre.

During the official opening, scheduled for Friday night in Havana’s Chaplin movie theater, they will screen documentary short films Tengo Talento and Making History, and documentary film-winning Yo Soy del Son a la Salsa.

The event also includes children’s programming, involving delivering awards of the contest Draw the Caribbean, organized by the Office of the Traveling Caribbean Film Showcase, and a special presentation of the band of the company La colmenita.

A total of 27 documentaries and three short animated films from 13 countries are part of the official program of the event. Its director, Rigoberto Lopez recommended some films such as Rumbos de la Rumba, Recordando el Mamoncillo, Tite Curet ! and Calypso Rose, lioness of the Jungla.

Last year, the Caribbean Film Showcase toured 17 countries in the region, and had a test market in Cuba, whose fruit was the gestation of an online platform to enter Europe .

The next edition of this market will be in Willemstad, capital of Curacao, which is coordinated by Segni Bernardina, Lopez said.
