Havana Film Festival of New York honors Cuban filmmaker Fernando Perez

New York, USA, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The Havana Film Festival of New York, opening this Friday will dedicates its series of special events, to honor film director Fernando Perez, responsible for emblematic works of Cuban cinematography such as ”Clandestinos”.

As is customary every year, this event dedicated to Latin American cinema pays tribute to the directors who leave a mark on history, said the organizers.

This time it’s Fernando Perez’s turn, ‘one of Cuba’s most respected filmmakers,’ they said, and during the festival several of his iconic works will be screened, including Suite Habana (April 8, New York Institute of Technology) and Clandestinos (April 15, AMC Loews).

In addition, a special presentation of her most recent film Insumisas, which he directed with Laura Cazador, was selected for the closing and award gala of the Havana Film Festival on April 15.

In this 20th edition of the event, 16 productions compete for the Havana Star Prize in the categories of Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Documentary.

From April 5 to 16, more than 35 films that have already won awards at major festivals around the world, will be screened. They come from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru and Spain.

Many of them are premieres in the United States or New York, and will be accompanied by round tables, question-and-answer sessions and other spaces organized by renowned Latin American filmmakers.
