French solidarity fund backs film production in Cuba

Havana, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) The French Solidarity Fund for Innovative Projects is developing today a cultural initiative aimed at boosting film production in Cuba and its dissemination through various platforms.

The presentation of this plan took place in the framework of the 23rd edition of the French Film Festival, which takes place in this capital until June 30 and hosts a varied agenda of film screenings, academic and industry exchanges, workshops and other activities.

According to the European nation’s cultural attaché on the island, Solen Rouillard, the initiative to support new cinemas and the Cuban film industry is part of the official development efforts that France has implemented in nearly 60 countries.

In the Cuban scenario, the project seeks to contribute, through a specific mechanism, to the strengthening of civil societies, with a quick and visible impact for the benefit of the population, according to the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic).

Likewise, the text reports that the plan will last for two years in the Caribbean Island and will support the new ways of making films nowadays, as well as the professionalization of the members of the seventh art industry and its international diffusion.

On the French side, the fund is backed by the National Audiovisual Institute, Cinemania, Campus Francia, the Alliance Française de Cuba, among others, while on the Cuban side are Icaic, the University of the Arts, the International Film School and the New Latin American Film Festival.
