Díaz-Canel laments deaths as a result of Israel’s genocide in Gaza

Havana, Mar 26 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Tuesday lamented the death toll as a result of Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, as it continues to increase and has already exceeded 32,000 deaths, mostly children and women.

On his X account, the head of State noted that while the United Nations Security Council approved a resolution on Monday demanding a ceasefire in Gaza during the month of Ramadan, the number of martyrs continued to increase.

He condemned that the United States continues to refuse peace. “World shame,” he added in his message.

On Monday, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reiterated the urgency of a permanent ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave, because UN regulations only provide for a truce during the month of Ramadan.

The approved resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire that will lead to a lasting and sustainable end of the conflict, and the return of the hostages held by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.

At the same time, he noted the urgent need to allow more life-saving aid to reach a starving population in the besieged territory in compliance with international law.

The UN Security Council also considers an urgent need to expand the flow of humanitarian assistance and strengthen the protection of civilians throughout the Gaza Strip.

Likewise, he reiterated his demand to eliminate obstacles to the provision of large-scale humanitarian assistance.
