Havana, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday rejected the recent measure by the Government of the United States against humanitarian exchange between Miami and Havana, as part of a policy that hinders cooperation between the two countries.
According to the president, it is an anti-Cuba measure that reaffirms the logics of the imperial policy of punishment to Cuban families, Diaz-Canel wrote on his Twitter account.
This week, the US Department of State refused to exempt two charter airlines from the flight prohibition between that country and Cuba.
‘We received guidance from the Department of State that the applications did not fall within the specified exceptions, and that grant of the requested authority would not be in the foreign policy interests of the United States,’ the Department of Transportation (DOT) said in a press release quoted by Sputnik.
The two companies that requested authorization, Skyway Enterprises and IBC Airways, Inc., said their proposed flights are humanitarian in nature and therefore should be permitted under the exceptions in the DOT’s charter suspension order.
The new measure is a merciless act, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez noted.
‘The Trump Government is reinforcing punishment on Cuban families in both countries until the last minute,’ the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote on Twitter.
