Washington, Oct 19.- The reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba is one of the most important events in US foreign policy in 2015, Democratic Congressman Adam Smith said.
The lawmaker, who is the main politician in his party at the House of Representatives’ Armed Services Committee, said, “These landmark achievements should reinforce our commitment to engagement as our first way to achieve national security objectives. In an article published in The Hill on Sunday, Smith said that the previous Cuba policy, based on unilateral sanctions, failed and only contributed to separating Washington from the Cuban people.
Cuba and the United States reestablished diplomatic relations on July 20 as an initial step towa0rds the normalization of bilateral ties, for which, the main obstacle, according to Cuban authorities, is the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than half a century.(Prensa Latina)
