Delegates of 15 Countries to Dialogue on Gerontology in Cuba

The venue will have the presence of delegates from China, Mauritius Is., France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, St. Maarten, Canada, Martinica, Cameroon, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and the hosting country, announced Arencibia in a press conference.

The rights of the elderly in the world will be the central topic of the meeting, sponsored by the International Federation of Associations of Elderly Persons and the Cuban Center of Research on Ageing, Longevity and Health of the Elderly.

Among those issues are included the mistreatment, isolation, poverty, access to their rights, the formation of the elderly and their attendants.

On the topic of ageing, the also president of the Cuban Geriatric and Gerontology Society told Prensa Latina that this island is immerse in a geriatrization process, consisting in the formation of personnel that attend the elderly in one way or another.

This fact responds to the reality that Cuba has 19.8 percent of its population over 60 years and in 2025, the rate will be 25 percent, he concluded.
