Cuba´s Return to the Games is Wonderful, says Caribbean Sports Official

Héctor-Cardona[1]Veracruz, Mexico, Nov 13.- The return of Cuba is wonderful, Hector Cardona, president of the Central American and the Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO), joyfully expressed in his first meeting with Cuban press when just arriving to the city that hosts the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games. We visited Havana, met with Jose Ramon Fernandez, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee and the senior leadership of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation. They promised us to participate and have met, but even more, they do it with the best to defend their leadership, the Puerto Rican enthusiastically said.

On the sporting rivalry predicted for the event, he did not hesitate to consider that Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela and Colombia have already announced wins and that’s good, because it indicates that we will have a games of excellence, but more importantly is that condescension and peace primarily prevail.

Cardona , accompanied by Carlos Uriarte, press officer of the entity, called for these to be the best games ever, as they are very well organized and attended. Everything will be fine, although there are some minor problems with the theme of hotels, as for the first time there will be no sports village and some delegations are satisfied and others not.

This is the first time it happens in 88 years of existence of the oldest regional games of the planet.
We are pleased with everything. The meeting of the executive was today and all goes well, the facilities are first class, very nice and have all the demands required by the international federations, he noted.

He stressed that this edition will bring together 44 world and Olympic medalists, and will pass into history with a record of more than five thousand participants-and 2 165 women who had never exceeded two thousand.

On security, he said he was convinced that this is a solved and well organized theme, including the system designed for hotels, so we are well pleased in that regard.

Regarding the concerns raised by some media about the future of the games, he recalled that CACSO has already guaranteed the next edition to be held in Barranqulla, Colombia, in 2018.

When we take the venue away to Guatemala because it did not comply, in just six months four countries offered their candidature and we made elections. Colombia won and all showed willingness to save the games. That is future and guarantee of our regional competition, he stated.(acn).
