Cuba’s Los Van Van orchestra to give concert in virtual event

Havana, May 20 (Prensa Latina) The popular Cuban orchestra Los Van Van will give a concert on Thursday, as part of the online festival organized by the multicultural project Ybor Art Factory (YAF), based in Florida, United States.

The concert by the group, led by Samuel Formell, will be broadcast on the YAF website and Facebook page starting at 20:00 hours, local time.

The Ybor Art Factory project, a collaboration with the Cuban Ministry of Culture, offers every Thursday a program aimed at promoting the values of contemporary Cuban art (literature, dance, plastic arts, crafts, fashion and music), and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been used through the online modality.

The Los Van Van orchestra, founded by the instrumentalist, composer and arranger Juan Formell (1942-2014), is one of the main exponents of the so-called Cuban popular dance music.

The band’s intense and productive career has been recognized with important awards, including a Latin Grammy and several Cubadisco awards, such as the Extraordinary Prize for the album Mi Songo, a tribute to Formell’s work.

Mi Songo, released by Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM), marked the closing of the celebrations for the group’s 50th anniversary.
