HAVANA, Cuba, May 15 (acn) As part of preparations to face possible quakes, Cubans launched the Sismo 2005 exercise, aimed at strengthening capacities against high-intensity earth and sea quakes.
The event is based on a detailed analysis at all command levels of the measures to be taken in different stages relevant to the reduction or mitigation of the impact by quakes.
In 2014, Cuba reported 5 thousand 799 telluric movements, with 20 of them perceptible as reported by the national seismologic network.
As a prelude to the quake exercise, Cubans will carry out another drill over the weekend to strengthen the preparation against hurricanes, drought, and other natural phenomena, as well as epidemics.
