Cubans to begin earthquake preparedness drills

imagesHAVANA, Cuba, May 15 (acn) As part of preparations to face possible quakes, Cubans launched the Sismo 2005 exercise, aimed at strengthening capacities against high-intensity earth and sea quakes.

The event is based on a detailed analysis at all command levels of the measures to be taken in different stages relevant to the reduction or mitigation of the impact by quakes.

In 2014, Cuba reported 5 thousand 799 telluric movements, with 20 of them perceptible as reported by the national seismologic network.

As a prelude to the quake exercise, Cubans will carry out another drill over the weekend to strengthen the preparation against hurricanes, drought, and other natural phenomena, as well as epidemics.
