Havana, Apr 11 (Prensa Latina) Cubans on Monday recalled the landing of National Hero Jose Marti and Dominican General Maximo Gomez in the eastern part of the country 127 years ago to join the leadership of the war for independence against Spain.
Both heroes landed in Playita de Cajobabo on April 11, 1895, after a difficult sea crossing, an event that the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, described as an extraordinary feat.
On February 24, 1895, Cubans resumed their fight for independence from Spain, a struggle that was organized by Jose Marti at the helm of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC).
However, the outbreak occurred without the presence of the main leaders, who had to come to Cuba as soon as possible in expeditions to command the rebel forces.
On April 1, 1895, Antonio Maceo, Flor Crombet, Jose Maceo and other patriots landed in eastern Cuban in Duaba.
Gomez, Marti, Marcos del Rosario and other leaders arrived ten days later, after a night crossing.
