Havana, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Workers” Confederation (CTC) has today called mass voluntary work on October 7, in response to a call by President Raul Castro after Hurricane Irma hit the country.
In a communique published in Trabajadores newspaper, the trade union confederation said that the objective is to promote tasks that require a decisive effort and contribute to the country’s recovery.
The axes of the mobilization will be food production, construction works, cleaning-up and sanitation in work places, communities and cities, among others.
‘At this crucial moment, the Cuban Workers’ Confederation and the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), along with other grass-roots organizations, should redouble their efforts to erase the aftermath of this destructive event as soon as possible,’ the press release added.
The voluntary work will also pay tribute to the Cuban-Argentinean guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara on the 50th anniversary of his assassination in Bolivia, the CTC stated.
