Havana, Jan 22.- Cuba celebrates the National Theatre Day with the delivery of the annual Award of that gender to prestigious playwright, Carlos Celdran.The awarding ceremony will take place at the Trianon Theatre in Havana, as part of the Villanueva Events, dedicated every January to that artistic expression.
Celdran told Prensa Latina that the award comes in an important year, because Argos Teatro, a company headed by him, will mark two decades of existence in 2016, and a play written by him, will be on stage in June.
Graduated from the Higher Institute of Art in Cuba (ISA), the playwright has directed in this island about 20 theater performances, and other in countries such as Mexico and Venezuela.
His teaching experience has led him work at the Alicia Alonso Higher Dance Institute of the King Juan Carlos University in Madrid, Spain, the University Institute of Theatre in Venezuela, and the ISA.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, and the National Council for the Performing Arts, the jury, headed by actress Veronica Lynn, decided on January 11 to award Celdran with the 2016 National Theater Prize. (Prensa Latina)
