Cuban prime minister commemorates anniversary of II Eastern Front

Havana, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero recalled the 66th anniversary of the II Frank Pais Eastern Front, which it described as a strategic force for the triumph of the Revolution in 1959.

The head of Government recalled on his X account that the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, described the front as a “model of organization, administration and order.”

“Sixty years after its creation, our tribute to its fighters, Marrero noted on X.

Founded by the leader of the Revolution, Raúl Castro, the front’s mission was to fight the Fulgencio Batista Dictatorship (1952-1958) in eastern Cuba. The territory covered 123,000 square kilometers and had a population of half a million inhabitants.

In the rebel demarcation, Raul Castro created and organized the departments of Justice, Health, Public Works, Treasury, Propaganda and Inspection and Education, the Agrarian Office and the Workers’ Bureau.

As a result, 20 hospitals and field medical posts were established, some 400 schools were created and hundreds of kilometers of roads and telephone lines were built.

In its nine months and 20 days of operation, this Front seized 31 barracks and posts from the Rural Guard, in addition to occupying some 2,000 weapons from the enemy.
