Cuban president highlights collaboration with Brazilian municipality

Havana, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted on Twitter the interest of the Brazilian municipality of Maricá to collaborate with the island in areas such as biotechnology, health, agriculture and education.

The president referred to a meeting held the day before in Havana with a delegation from that municipality, which is located about 50 kilometers from the city of Rio de Janeiro, headed by its deputy mayor, Diego Zeidan Cardoso Siqueira.

At the meeting, Díaz-Canel learned of the interest of the Rio de Janeiro delegation in promoting ties with the biopharmaceutical industry and exploring collaboration agreements in other areas such as health, education and culture, Granma newspaper reported.

He also reported of Maricá’s intention to diversify its economy, especially the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, in addition to agriculture and tourism. The Cuban president sent greetings to João Pedro Stédile, leader of the Landless Movement, and highlighted the links in these and other areas of interest that were developed between Cuba and Brazil during the governments of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff.

He also highlighted the potential for collaboration that could be developed between Maricá and Cuba, and ratified to the Rio de Janeiro delegation his support in this interest.
