Havana, Nov 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed gratitude on Saturday for the shipment of food organized by solidarity groups in the United States that arrived in Havana on Friday.

In a message on his Twitter account, the president welcomed the initiative by CODEPINK, Bridges of Love and People’s Forum, with the support of the Martin Lutter King Jr Center for his transfer.

“Donations of food come to Cuba from solidarity organizations in the US (…), with a view to its free distribution to the population of eastern territories. We appreciate this solidarity help,” Diaz-Canel tweeted.

With an estimated cargo of 18,000 pounds, the shipment consisted mostly of pastas and canned tuna.

Upon his arrival on Cuban soil, Cuban-American Professor Carlos Lazo, leader of Bridges of Love, expressed gratitude for the solidarity and ratified the need to strengthen family ties between Cuba and the United States in statements to the press.
