Cuban president and Mexican foreign minister meet in Havana

Havana, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel met on Saturday with Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, who is on an official visit to Havana to strengthen bilateral ties.

At the cordial meeting, they expressed satisfaction with the continuity of the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the Cuban Presidency reported on its website.

They also noted the will to consolidate relations in sectors of mutual interest, and exchanged viewpoints on international issues.

Present at the meeting were the chief of the Presidency’s Advisors, Lazaro Cardenas, and Mexican Ambassador Miguel Ignacio Diaz, as well as Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, and the director general of the Latin America and Caribbean Department at the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Eugenio Martinez.

At a meeting with Ebrard, the Cuban foreign minister described the current ties between the two countries as excellent, and pointed out that there are great prospects based on the existing relationship of confidence.

The Mexican foreign minister is visiting Havana at a time of great tensions between Cuba and the United States, after the Government of President Donald Trump implemented more than 180 measures to tighten the blockade Washington has imposed on the Caribbean island for 57 years.
