Cuban Pina wins bronze in World Wrestling Championship

Havana, Cuba, Aug 23.- Cuban Oscar Pino, Greco-Roman style, won the bronze medal in the 130 kilogram division during the second competitive day of the World Wrestling Championship running in Paris, France, until August 26.

Pino, Pan American champion this year, beat 3-1 in that final bout Belarusan Kiryl Hryshchanka to complete a great performance with four wins and only one loss.

His performance in this tournament included a 5-1 win on his debut over Hungary’s Balint Lam to then beat 4-0 Bulgaria’s Miroslav Yuriev, according to the official website of the contest.

In his third combat, he defeated 3-1 German Eduard Popp, which earned him a ticket to semi-finals, where he lost 1-2 to Turkish Riza Kayaalp, Rio 2016 Olympic silver medalist, who beat 2-1 Estonia’s Heiki Nabi in the final, thus achieving his third global crown.

With this result, Cuba added its first medal in this universal event, and the five wrestlers of the freestyle will start competing on Friday.
