Cuban Moviemaker Wins Grand Award at Audiovisual Event

Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) The documentary Molotov, by Cuban moviemaker Iran Hernandez, won the City Lights Grand Award at the 24th Audiovisual Exhibition “Almacen de la Imagen”, in which films from Asia, Europe and the Americas also competed.

The jurors, who met from September 17-20 in this city, some 570 kilometers east of Havana, evaluated 73 audiovisual materials by filmmakers from India, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Hungary, Spain and Cuba.

In order to select the winning film, the jury took into consideration the appropriation of visual and narrative codes typical of militant and vanguard cinema, and the adequate use of various cinema techniques that promote a committed attitude in an apathetic and frivolous context.

Molotov, which also won the Special Award granted by the International Cinema and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV), “articulates a very personal perspective of the role of youths in different periods of Cuban history, without disallowing similarities, contrasts and possible connections with processes in other latitudes.”
