WINONA — Jazz music from Cuba will be featured when the Saint Mary’s University jazz groups present “A Night in Havana” at 7:30 p.m. April 4 in Page Theatre on campus.

Jazz is good for the soul
Eric Heukeshoven, director of jazz studies at Saint Mary’s, was hooked by the music and rhythms he heard while visiting Havana last December. The concert will include those sounds and others inspired by Cuban musicians and composers.
The lineup includes a group of percussionists led by Dennis McGuire, director of the SMU World Drum Ensemble, playing authentic Afro-Cuban instruments.
Heukeshoven and John Paulson, emeritus professor of music at Saint Mary’s, attended the Havana Jazz Festival last December with a group from the American Composers Forum.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens. For reservations, call 507-457-1715.
