HAVANA, Oct 21 (NNN-ACN) – Cuban Osleni Guerrero won the gold medal in the 19th Pan American Badminton Championships, hosted by the Canadian city of Ontario.
Guerrero , who had already reached this title last year, had another excellent performance to win again the men’s single event by beating in the final American Bjorn Seguin.
The representative of Cuba, top seed of the competition, defeated 2-1 (19-21, 21-14 and 21-13) Seguin, according to the website of the contest.
Thus, the best badminton player of America, earned 5000 points to his personal account in the global ranking, where he is at the 56th place.
On Canadian soil, Guerrero´s victims were Jamaican Mathew Lee, Peruvian Mario Cuba, Guatemalan Kevin Cordon and the also American Howard Shu.
This is his third title this year as he already achieved gold medals at the Peru Open and the International Tournament in Venezuela, and he also won bronze medals in “Giraldilla Tournament” in Havana and the Brazil Grand Prix.
This continental title will be a motivation to face the Central American and Caribbean Games to be held in Veracruz, Mexico, from November 14 to 30, where Cuba expects to win the men’s single and the men’s or mixed doubles events.–NNN-ACN
