Cuban Foreign Minister Welcomes US Republican Senator Jeff Flake

Havana, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez received the Republican senator for the US state of Arizona Jeff Flake, reports an official note today.

The legislator, who has traveled to Cuba on several occasions, is part of a growing bipartisan group of members of the United States Congress that leads several proposals in that body to promote rapprochement and better relations between the two countries.

Flake has been the main promoter of a bill that proposes the elimination of restrictions on travel by Americans to Cuba, which currently has the support of 54 other senators (more than half of the members of the Senate), highlighted the text published by the website of the Cuban foreign ministry.

The meeting was attended by the United States General Director of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Josefina Vidal; the deputy director, Johana Tablada, and ambassador Carlos Fernández.
