Havana, May 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Friday rejected the unilateral decision of the United States to apply tariffs to Mexican imports under the pretext of migratory flow. ”I strongly reject the application of coercive, discriminatory, imperialist and arbitrary US measures against Mexico, inspired by the Monroe Doctrine,” the Cuban Foreign Minister wrote on Twitter.
Poverty is the cause of emigration and the solution is cooperation for development. All of Cuba’s solidarity with Mexico, he added.
President Donald Trump decided to punish Mexico with a five percent tariff on its exports to the US until, he said, it contains the flow of migrants, mostly Central Americans, who seek the border with the United States.
Washington has turned a deaf ear to Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s proposal for a development program involving Central American nations to combat poverty and violence, among the main causes of emigration in the region.
