Cuban FM Thanks International Support against Helms-Burton

Havana, May 13 ( Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez has thanked governments and international companies on Monday for their extensive rejection of the Helms-Burton Act.

He denounced in Twitter that hostile law as ‘a judicial aberration and a flagrant violation of international law’.

Rodriguez emphasized that with the activation of Title III, this policy has become extraterritorial in that it violates foreign trade rules and deprives Cuba from foreign investment, threatening current and potential partners.

This specificity of the law has been rejected for 27 years in the UN General Assembly by means of a resolution calling for an end to the blockade of the United States against Cuba.

According to Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, unilateral economic measures adopted by member states contravene the principles and rules of international law.

‘It is an aggression against the Cuban sovereignty and that of third states’, he said on social media.

The activation on May 2 of Titles III and IV of the Helms-Burton Act tightens the economic, commercial and financial blockade that Washington has maintained for almost six decades against Cuba.
