Cuban Discus Thrower Yaime Perez Happy with Lima 2019 Victory

Lima, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Pan American champion and record holder, Cuban discus thrower Yaime Perez, has said she never doubted her victory at the Lima 2019 Games, because she has seen an excellent season.

Perez assured her victory in the sixth and final throw of the discus, reaching a distance of 66.58 meters, to beat the Pan American record of 66.40 set by her compatriot Yarelis Barrios on October 28, 2011, in Guadalajara, Mexico.

‘I feel happy because this has been a year of a lot of sacrifice and dedication. I was confident that I could win the gold medal and I did it,’ she said.

The new Pan-American champion also recalled that she will compete in the Diamond League and the World Championship in Athletics, where she believes she can also secure a medal.
