Cuban Disco Thrower Silinda O. Morales Wins Gold in Nairobi

Nairobi, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban female discus thrower Silinda O. Morales won the world title at the World Junior Athletics Championship in the capital of Kenya, in competitions that are disputed until Sunday.

The Cuban female discus thrower threw the implement on consecutive shots of 50.83, 48.84 (Fault), 49.57, 51.96 and 52.89 meters to win her third gold medal for Cuba in the event.

Morales was followed by German Leia Braunagel (51.29 meters, silver) and Chinese Quantong Liu (50.10 meters, bronze).

Another Cuban athlete who competed in this specialty, Melany Matheus failed her first three attempts, to conclude in twelfth and last place in this event.

Cuba heads the medal table of the World Junior Athletics Championship with 3 gold medals, 1 silver, no bronze, ahead of Kenya (2-3-0) and Germany (2-1-3).

Following these three countries in the list there are amaica (2-0-2), Ukraine (2-0-0), South Africa (1-2-1), Ethiopia and China, both with 1-1-3; France (1-0-1) and the Czech Republic (1-0-0).
