Stockholm, May 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina arrived in this capital on Thursday, as part of a tour of Nordic countries to strengthen bilateral relations.
Those historic ties were established on the basis of mutual respect and friendship among the peoples, Medina wrote on his Twitter account, after visiting Finland and Norway.
The diplomat will meet with Swedish government officials, with whom he will exchange criteria about matters of common interest and the international situation, according to a press release from the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
During his stay in Oslo, the deputy foreign minister repeated that Cuba highly values the strong rejection by the European Union (EU) and other countries in the region of the activation of Title III of the US Helms-Burton Act against Cuba.
He noted that Cuba and Norway share common criteria on their responsibilities as guarantors of the peace process in Colombia.
The two countries ratified their interest in continuing to develop cooperation projects for mutual benefit and with other Caribbean countries, according to a twit from Medina after meeting the Norwegian secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Jens Frolich Holte.
The Cuban diplomat also met with Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soreide and visited the Kon-Tiki Museum. Medina thanked the Finnish Government for its support for Cuba’s struggle against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for nearly six decades, and participated in the celebration of the 90th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.
He also highlighted the positive development of relations between Cuba and the EU during the first year of implementation of the Agreement on Political Dialogue and Cooperation.
Medina’s tour will conclude in the Republic of Lithuania on May 20.
