Cuban Deputy Calls for Solidarity of Parliaments against the Blockade

Havana, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) Deputy of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba Delsa Esther Puebla called on the parliamentarians of the world today to support the island’s demand to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States .

‘We ask you to support our revolution and our people, who have been blocked for almost 60 years’, she told Prensa Latina in this capital.

Puebla, the first woman to reach the rank of Brigadier general in Cuba, recalled the economic impact of the siege applied by more than a dozen US administrations, intensified in the last two years with the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House.

‘We know the situation of the country and the problems arising from the blockade, as how far we should look for our things’, said the member of the Defense Commission of the National Assembly, in reference to the obstacle it represents when accessing the close US market to products needed for the development of the country.

The deputy participated the day before in a public hearing of the Assembly, in which the Cuban legislative body exhorted through an appeal to the parliamentarians of the planet to reinforce the international demand to stop the unilateral and extraterritorial sanctions.

The call was made less than a month after the UN General Assembly voted (on October 31) to draft a new resolution on the need to end the blockade on the island, an initiative similar to the one supported categorically year after year in that multilateral forum since 1992.
