Cuban Athletes Join Recovery Works after Hurricane

Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Glories of the Cuban sports movement and the capital”s baseball team members joined today recovery efforts in Havana facilities after the devastating passage of Hurricane Irma. The work in basically done in the Santiago Changa Mederos baseball stadium and other areas belonging to the Sports City Complex which suffer obstruction of streets and drainage due to branches and trees tumbled down by the strong winds.

According to athletes, waste collection is not only a commitment aimed at getting the facilities ready back again, but also a response to the call of the country’s highest leadership to complete the recovery as soon as possible.

For the President of the Cuban Athletics Federation, Alberto Juantorena, the athletes’ efforts reflects their commitment with the homeland.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the Havana Industriales, Victor Mesa, said that all the players joined the work to support the sports facilities’ rehabilitation.

For his part, Javier Sotomayor, former high jumper and world recordman, stressed that Cuban athletes are united to the people in recovery efforts so that all citizens return to their day-to-day life as soon as possible.
