Cuban architect honors Ybor City link to homeland

Renowned Cuban architect Eusebio Leal on Saturday morning placed a flower in front of the Jose Marti statue in Friends of Jose Marti Park on Eighth Avenue in Ybor City.

In the late 1800s, Marti called for Cuba’s freedom from Spain and pressed the cause in collaboration with Cuban immigrants in Ybor City.

By placing a flower before Marti’s statue, Leal intended to honor the longstanding connection between Cuba and Ybor City.
