Cuba Updates Law on Environment

Havana, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina) Coherence of physical planning with local situations will decrease the vulnerability of coastal environments and associated social damage, according to reports today.

Legal Matters Specialist Orlando Rey told to news agency Prensa Latina that Cuban Law on Environment 1997 have presented a legal framework, which is now limited in the application to climate change.

He said legal authorities were seriously considering the possibility of providing better protection for environments like sandy beaches, mangrove swamps and reef crests.

Specifying more clearly the responsibilities of different organs and agencies with competence in coastal regions was included in the checking by government authorities, Rey said.
