Cuba to Hosts Ibero American Meeting for Science and Technology

Varadero, Cuba, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) The Directive Council and General Assembly of the Ibero American Science and Technology Program for Development (CYTED) will be in session here on November 27 and 28, as reported by the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).

CITMA will preside the next meeting of CYTED, to which 22 Ibero American countries will attend, at the Melia Varadero Hotel in Varadero, 140 kilometers east from Havana.

CYTED is a multi-lateral project created in 1984, by means of an agreement signed by Spain, Portugal and another 19 nations from Latin America.

The initiative has as a main objective to contribute to a harmonic development in the region, by means of cooperation in fields such as science, technology and innovation.

The operation of this project is with contributions made by the member countries, through their respective National Science and Technology Organizations, according to the note.

The Cuban participation in Cyted actions – added – ‘has been significant’, since in the 2005-2016 stage, of the 22 Thematic Networks identified as highlighted by the impact of their results, the island’s delegations are included in nine of them.

During that period, around 1,400 researchers, 28 companies and 20 RTs have participated in the project.

The points of interest in the preliminary agenda of the meeting of the entity will be the election of the Secretary General for the 2019-2021 period, and the selection of Area Managers for the 2018-2019 biennium, added the information.
