Cuba to host Central American and Caribbean chemistry Olympics

Havana, Cuba, May 13.- Cuba will host the Central American and Caribbean Chemistry Olympics to be held from July 17th to the 23rd at the University of Havana and the Martires de GironPolytechnic Institute.

National Chemistrymethodologist, Jose Hernandez told the press that students that were selected to participate in the Ibero American and International competitions will received an intensive preparation next week at the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Vocational High School.

He recalled that out of 22 Cuban students, 18 obtained medals and prizes last year against super talented opponents from Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala and El Salvador.

He also stressed that through an agreement with the Higher Education Ministry 10th grade students are stimulated with the careers they desire.

The National chemistry methodologist explained that actions will be carried out to rescue the main principles of the Lenin High School and among them, he said, are science classes aimed at strengthening preparation of the students at the base.

He added that each province has a specialized high school and that the Isle of Youth as an experimental classroom because they had not inserted any student to the Lenin Vocational High School in the last two years.

Hernandez referred to the secondary school students that received classes at the University of Havana and the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas where 54 and 29 students attend respectively.(acn)
